Scott S. Rosenthal
Scott has been with this Firm from its earliest stages – starting as an associate with Wilsman & Schoonover, moving to Partner with Schoonover, Andrews, Rosenthal and now as Senior Partner with Rosenthal | Lane. As such, he has been a mainstay for the Firm’s philosophy, focus and standards for outstanding representation of his clients. The majority of Scott’s practice is focused on the area of domestic relations and family law. This includes divorce practice, child custody and support, as well as a juvenile court practice. Notably, Scott has also argued before the 9th, 11th and 8th District Courts of Appeals, helping to establish case law that is followed as precedent throughout Ohio.
Scott is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Family Law Section. He has lectured at continuing education seminars on various topics, including the valuation of separate property assets in divorce matters and tax issues. In support of a wide range of clients, Scott has litigated numerous cases throughout Northeastern Ohio including: Ashtabula, Lake, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Summit, Portage, Richmond, Lorain, Medina and Huron counties. Recently, Scott has handled domestic relations cases in Cincinnati, Steubenville, and Tiffin.
Scott has been involved in some of the largest and most difficult cases in domestic relations litigation in Northeastern Ohio. He also devotes a significant portion of his family law practice to alternative dispute resolution approaches, which includes collaborative law and principled negotiation matters. Additionally, in the course of representing a diverse clientele, Scott recently expanded his practice to Probate litigation as well as Probate Court guardianships and trusteeships.
Scott graduated from Miami (Ohio) University in 1993, with a major in Political Science and a minor in History. He received his Juris Doctor from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1997, where he was a member of the Moot Court Team and was awarded the Order of Barristers for excellence.
Born in Shaker Heights, Scott currently lives in Bainbridge, Ohio with his wife, two children and two golden retrievers. Scott has maintained a presence in his community by volunteering for various charitable causes, as well as coaching youth basketball for both of his children. Most recently Scott is a Board Member for the Kenston Community Education Board of Governors. He was also appointed as Director of the Midwest Travel Basketball League based in the Kenston School system as well as advisor to the Director for the Kenston Youth Travel Basketball Program. Scott previously served as a Member of the Cleveland Warehouse District Board of Governors and as a member of the Achievement Centers for Children.
James L. Lane
Jim Lane has aggressively represented clients in complicated divorces and challenging child custody cases for over twenty-four years. Focusing his practice exclusively on family law, Jim has wide-ranging experience in trial and appellate courts throughout Ohio. On January 1, 2009, Jim was certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a Specialist in Family Relations Law. This certification makes him one of a small group of attorneys in Ohio to have earned this distinction. Jim is re-certified as a Family Law Specialist every two years by the Bar Association.
As the father of three young children, Jim understands the challenges parents face when family dynamics change. His clients benefit from Jim’s empathy, communication skills and fierce courtroom advocacy. With a strong background in finance and accounting, Jim can navigate complex business structures to uncover and value assets. He routinely represents high-net-worth individuals in courtroom battles across the State of Ohio.
Jim has also been honored by his peers for his professionalism and advocacy skills. From 2018 through 2023, Jim has been included in the prestigious annual list of Best Lawyers in America publication. He has also been designated a Super Lawyer by the Super Lawyers Thomson Reuters publication from 2021 through 2023. This honor is limited to the top 5% of Ohio attorneys who have demonstrated excellence in the practice of law.
Having established his expertise in Family Law, Jim is routinely asked to give presentations to other attorneys as part of the Continuing Legal Education requirements of the profession. Jim has lectured on a wide range of family law topics, including Parental Alienation, Child Custody Evaluations, Personality Disorders in Custody Matters, High Net Worth Divorce, Valuation of Business Entities in Divorce, Spousal Support Calculations, Prenuptial Agreements and Presentation of Electronic Evidence.
A life-long resident of Northeast Ohio, Jim lives with his wife and children in Hudson, Ohio.
Alarra joined the firm as an associate attorney in March of 2022. She first began her domestic relations practice as a Staff Attorney for the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court. There, she gained valuable experience working with the court and wanted to transfer her skills to private practice. She handles a wide range of domestic relations and juvenile matters, including divorce, dissolution, child support and custody, spousal support, division of property, and post-decree issues.
Alarra graduated from the University of Mount Union in 2017 with a Bachelor of the Arts in Political Science with minors in Criminal Justice and Legal Studies.
Alarra graduated from the University of Akron School of Law in 2020 with her Juris Doctorate and a Certificate in Litigation. While at Akron, she was an Assistant Production Editor of the Akron Law Review then served the organization as the Executive Editor of Student Writing. She was also a research assistant for the Center for Professional Responsibly and helped edit books in Professional Ethics.
Alarra is an active member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and currently serves as co-chair of the Family Law Section.
In her free time, Alarra enjoys traveling and exploring the world with her husband and their two dogs.
